In a Word... Spring!

Yes, there are finally, and definitely, signs of Spring in my neighborhood!

This Winter was a harsh one, relatively speaking. Most years we get a few nights of frost at most, and the odd year, we get some actual snowfall.  This year was really odd, as we had snow on the ground three different times.

Now, for those of you who live where there is real, cold, snowy Winter on a regular basis, that will not mean anything to you.  But here, where most people don't live with snow, they never learn how to drive in it, they don't know how to dress for it, and they don't shovel their sidewalks.  It can be very dangerous to be out and about, and often kind of amusing.

But it is finally gone. No more snow or cold days in the forecast and I am very thankful... our walks are getting longer again and the warmer, sunnier days are luring me outdoors more often.  One day recently we spent some time hunting down signs of Spring in the neighborhood... Normally by the first week of February my city is blanketed in a spectacular show of pink blossoms... we have thousands of flowering plum and cherry trees here... but this year they are just getting started! But we did find some pretty flowers and some sun-bathing ducks.

Hope to see a lot more of these days soon!

How is Spring shaping up in your neighborhood, or are  you still blanketed in snow?

What are you most looking forward to in the Spring?

  1. We had a really mild winter and now it is in the 60"s this week crazy for February. But I will take it. Those flowers are all gorgeous

  2. we've had only a couple snowfalls, and none of them lasted for more than a few days. That is really odd for Iowa...we usually get snow in December and it's here (more or less) until March. The past 10 days, or so, it has been spring-like...temps in the 50's (70's over the weekend). But, snow is due to return on Thursday....

  3. You already have flowers?!?! #sojealous

We had a relatively mild winter but still some brutally cold and snowy days. I'm ready for summer. :)

  4. We usually get much more snow that what we have had this winter. Although we had spring-like temps this past weekend, Im not convinced that they are here to stay! Hopefully no more snow!

  5. Just beautiful! We've had relatively little snow for our area, and have been unseasonable warm this week. It's been a crazy winter in the Chicago area! While we all love this 'heat wave', it can fool are perennials into sprouting, and then when the inevitable next cold snap comes, they can be lost. Ugh!

  7. I moved to Austin in Texas, so I didn't really experience winter at all this year. I think I wore my coat once. Can't say I miss the cold at all!

  8. Oh my goodness - the flowers! I'm so jealous. In MN we don't have flowers for about 3 more months! :) Hooray! But, in MN we STILL have people who don't know how to drive in the snow!

  9. Gorgeous! We haven't had any snow since December but other than ridiculously warm (70's) temps, it does not look spring-like here at all. I do love that the birds are singing though!

  11. We definitely had spring this weekend, but I'm not sure we're out of the (winter) woods yet. I wouldn't mind ^one^ snow day ....

  13. Oh, look at all those beautiful flowers!

I know it's spring because the cars and patio furniture are green with pollen. That's about it!

  14. We have not had a true winter here in south Mississippi. It has been unseasonably warm most of fall and all of winter!
