The Overlapping Circles of Life

I came across an illustration of the The Overlapping Circles of Health in a book I have been reading called  The Protein Power Life Plan.

I recreated it so I could share it with you here.

Overlapping circles of health

The authors, who are medical doctors,  suggest that the cornerstone of a healthy life is good nutrition, and that without it, not of the other facets can reach their full potential.

I have been thinking about this a lot over the past several months... experiementing with different types of foods and I agree with them. I know that when I eat what I need and in the amounts I need, I feel good and have the energy to take on all of the activities I want… I sleep well,  and my brain functions well.

When I don’t eat properly for me, I am cranky and not able to concentrate or perform physically and I don’t sleep well or feel well at all.

What do you think?  Do you think what you eat is an important base for the rest of your life?

  1. I like this thinking and really believe it's true. Crap in/crap out is what it comes down to--or good in/good out, right?

  2. Makes total sense to me! I def feel better when I eat what I need and I do better in all areas of my life when I do that too!

  3. That is so true!! And so basic!! BUT I so often forget and move to nonhealthy foods, and then I wonder why I feel so yucky!!

  4. OMG - EATING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT thing in your life. Seriously it is. Eating is what give you energy and if you fuel your body poorly, you won't feel good, thus you may get sick, then you cannot enjoy anything else in your lie... And then it's OVER! Eating is EVERYTHING. Everything! I couldn't scream it louder!

  5. I completely agree that nutrition is the center of the circle. I don't necessarily agree about what is in all of the other circles and how they overlap, like why does rest not overlap with new learning? But, nutrition is definitely the key to health. I also love that nowhere in there does it say 'skinny' or some other subjective measurement. Good nutrition, exercise, rest, learning - - all of that is awesome.

  6. I agree. I can tell a difference in how I feel when I make unhealthy food choices.

  7. Totally agree!!! When the pieces are balanced with our bodies, we function at our peak!! Tough sometimes to get it right but it's worth trying our best ;-)

Love it when you leave me a comment!
